Prospective Students:
College of Social Work
The College of Social Work at Pass Christian University offers programs to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to help people overcome the problems and challenges of living, such as unemployment, poverty, and family dysfunction. Social workers assess the interpersonal, financial, and medical issues facing families, children, and individuals, and propose counseling or programs to address these issues and help people improve their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
Graduates of the College of Social Work will find themselves in high demand as the population ages, creating a greater need for social services in gerontology, substance abuse programs, nursing homes, and hospice programs. Social workers are employed as counselors, clinicians, and administrators, by both private companies and public organizations.
Course work in PCU's College of Social Work programs includes abnormal psychology, gerontology, developmental psychology, communications, values and ethics, diversity, social welfare policies, and human growth and development, as well as research methods. Learning is facilitated through faculty-led discussion, group and individual projects, and personal experience. Cooperative learning arrangements are available in all College of Social Work programs.
