Confidentiality of Health Information

(45 hours of instruction) Medical records, both paper and electronic, help to provide patient care and also serve as legal documentation of it. The confidentiality of health information is vital in the effective provision of health care. Managers of health information have to be aware of the legal guidelines necessary for properly safeguarding this information.

This course will teach you what you must know in order to manage health care information effectively. In order to provide a comprehensive overview, we'll cover the American legal system and the aspects of it that apply especially to health information. Next, we'll discuss the control and use of health information. Finally, we'll focus on specific situations that concern health information managers.

By the time you complete this course, you'll have the skills, insights, and knowledge you need to understand the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and successfully maintain confidential health information.
