Math for Business and Finance

(45 hours of instruction) In this course, you'll gain math skills you can apply to the business world and to managing personal finances. We'll cover basic math including solving equations involving whole numbers, fractions, percents, and decimals. You'll learn to interpret various charts and graphs used in statistical measurement and how to calculate key statistical functions including mean, mode, median, range, and standard deviation.

We'll discuss and evaluate various types of personal investments including checking accounts, life insurance, and mortgages. We'll determine basis, ROI, and effective rates for each investment. You'll learn how to calculate inventory valuations including FIFO, LIFO, Average Cost, and LCM (Lower-of-cost-or-Market), how to calculate inventory turnover rates, and how to determine sale pricing. You'll find out how to compare and contrast the different pay periods and calculate gross pay, commissions, net pay, and federal taxes. Finally, we'll analyze key financial reports.
