The
Intermediate CompTIA A+ Certification Prep course picks up where the
Basic course left off, taking you right into the PC. You’ll start with
detailed information on installing and configuring hard drives and
removable drives, and then spend the rest of the course knee-deep in
Windows. You’ll learn about the operating system from installation to
operations, maintenance to troubleshooting. The course finishes with an
in-depth look into installing, configuring, maintaining, and
troubleshooting printers. This course takes you through the second of
the three steps you need to become both a highly competent PC tech and
a CompTIA A+ certified technician, 2006 style.

course includes a knowledgeable and caring instructor who will guide
you through your lessons, facilitate discussions, and answer your
questions. The instructor for this course will be Scott Jernigan.
With
a Master of Arts degree in Medieval History, Scott Jernigan feels as
much at home in the musty archives of London as he does in the warm
glow of a computer monitor. Scott teaches A+ Certification and PC
hardware classes around the country, including several stints at the
FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, Lucent Technologies in Baltimore, MD, and
the United Nations in New York City. Scott has also edited numerous
computer books, including the best-selling "All in One A+ Certification
Exam Guide" and the "Network+ Certification Exam Guide" from
McGraw-Hill. Practicing what he teaches, Scott is an A+ and Network+

Requirements:
Successful
completion of the Basic CompTIA A+ Certification Prep course; Internet
access, e-mail, the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web
browser, and the Adobe Flash and PDF plug-ins
(two free and simple downloads you obtain at
http://www.adobe.com/downloads by clicking Get Adobe Flash Player and
Get Adobe Reader), access to a PC running Windows 9x, and a PC running
Windows 2000 or XP, so that you can learn the subtle (and
not-so-subtle) differences between these two families of Windows.
Although this course focuses on operating systems, you should have
access to a hard drive that you can install, format, and partition, and
to a couple of Plug and Play devices that you can practice installing.
Because of the dangers of electro-static discharge
(to the machine, not the student), we do not require you to tear apart
your own primary computer (and definitely do not recommend that you
format or partition your primary hard drive!).

Student Reviews:
"A job well done, informative and rewarding. Looking forward to more."
"Fabulous course-- can't wait for Class 3!!!"
"Great humor. Those of us who have been working with hardware and OSs or a while must certainly share the same sense of humor"
"I feel this course gave me a great base knowledge for taking the CompTia A+ tests. I plan on taking the hardware class next."
"Love the course.....Things come to light after repetitive
reading and the deeper one delves into the lessons and other
materials.....I'm sure to be a decent tech, eh?"
"Thank you,,,very nice and educational"
"The Intermediate A+ Certification broadened my
understanding of how operating systems work. I suggest that people who
are interested in becoming A+ Certified take all three courses."
"This course is very well organized and has the necessary
structure to keep "independent study" students progressing steadily.
This course, like the basic course, achieves the impossible by making
it possible for students of many different computer backgrounds and
experience to have both a uniform standard of computer technical
knowledge and still be able to pursue those areas of computer knowledge
particular to their own interests. I think this course and the basic
course are most useful to those students who understand that they must
invest some of their resources in both hardware and operating system
software to gain the practical knowledge essential to be a computer
technician. I look forward to the advanced course."
"This has been a great experience for me! I can't sit in a classroom anymore, so this is perfect for me."
"This was an excellent course! As are all of the courses I have taken with Prof. Jernigan."
