Syllabus:

All courses run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when the lesson is released, but you must complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

A new section of each course starts on the second or third Wednesday of each month. If enrolling in a series of two or more courses, please be sure to space the start date for each course at least two months apart.

Week One
Wednesday - Lesson 01
In our first lesson, you’ll learn not only what a legal nurse consultant is, but also how to become one. You’ll see how legal nurse consultants are the next big trend in the legal profession, and how you can use your medical background to launch a new and very lucrative second career.

Friday - Lesson 02
If one of your major stumbling blocks to becoming a legal nurse consultant is that you don’t know enough about the American judicial system, this lesson will demystify the entire process. In today's lesson, you'll learn about the legal system and see that the law isn’t as complicated as you may have feared. We'll also look at how to put this theoretical knowledge to practice when you start your legal nurse consulting practice.

Week Two
Wednesday - Lesson 03
Ever wonder how lawyers get to be lawyers? Or how law firms can afford to pay consultants? In this lesson, we'll take a look inside law firms and reveal the financial arrangements between partners and associate attorneys. We'll also explore the jargon you’ll need to negotiate top fees from plaintiffs and insurance defense firms. You’ll see exactly why there's such a demand for legal nurse consultants and how to craft a resume that will make an attorney sit up and take notice.

Friday - Lesson 04
In this lesson, we'll take a look at a civil case from start to finish. By the time we finish, you’ll understand each phase of a civil case and know exactly where a legal nurse consultant fits into the process. You’ll also learn some important terminology that will allow you to interact with attorneys and let them know that you're a legally trained professional. This lesson will give you the solid foundation in civil law that you must have before you can launch your new career as a legal nurse consultant.

Week Three
Wednesday - Lesson 05
Are you a little anxious about starting your own business? Does the thought of charging fees, keeping records, and creating a business plan leave you with sweaty palms? Not after this lesson. We’ll go step-by-step through the process of creating a legal nurse consulting practice, from the equipment that you’ll need to the services that you'll offer law firms. You’ll learn how much you should charge and proven methods of marketing yourself to the legal community. We'll also go through the questions that lawyers are likely to ask if they're thinking about hiring you.

Friday - Lesson 06
Do shows like Law & Order and CSI get it right? Usually not. In this lesson, we'll look through the evidence to see why most TV shows get it wrong. Want to know the difference between circumstantial evidence and direct evidence? This is where you'll learn to distinguish between different types of evidence, and how to use this knowledge to your advantage when you communicate with attorneys. You’ll come out of this lesson able to tell your friends what's right (and wrong!) about legal TV shows.

Week Four
Wednesday - Lesson 07
Want to know exactly what you'll be doing as a legal nurse consultant? You’ll learn exactly what services you'll provide to attorneys—especially what to charge for them, and how to perform them. Most attorneys ask legal nurse consultants to screen cases for them. You’ll learn about screening in this lesson, and you’ll look at specific examples of the type of report you should give an attorney. How do you review a file? Locate an expert witness? Draft an opinion letter? In this lesson, you'll use actual, written templates for all of these activities, and more.

Friday - Lesson 08
Why do you need to know how to do legal research? For one thing, it’s how you can help a lawyer win a case. For another, it’s a great way to get more business. You’ll learn legal research from the ground up in this lesson—you may be surprised by how straightforward the topic really is. When you finish this lesson, you be confident that you can walk into a law library anywhere and know exactly where to go and what to do.

Week Five
Wednesday - Lesson 09
Now that you’ve built your skill set, you’re ready to tackle the two types of cases where you’ll make most of your income as a legal nurse consultant: Personal injury and medical malpractice cases. We'll look at how these cases are brought and why you are absolutely essential in making them successful. Where do you fit in as an expert in medical malpractice cases? How do you help attorneys prepare these cases? More importantly, how can you show prospective attorneys that they're more likely to win their case with a legal nurse consultant than without one? This lesson answers these questions and many more.

Friday - Lesson 10
Legal nurse consultants are becoming important in criminal law, too. If you're drawn to cases where you can make a real difference—rape and child molestation, for instance—then this lesson will help you master the basics of criminal law. You’ll learn how prosecutors bring cases, the function of grand juries, how a criminal trial comes together, and what it takes to work with the victims of these terrible crimes. You’ll also get an inside look at a world very few people ever get to see.

Week Six
Wednesday - Lesson 11
Picture yourself walking into a courtroom as the right hand of a trial attorney. You help pick the jury. You suggest questions that the attorney should ask medical witnesses. You confer with the lawyer during the trial. This lesson teaches you how to master all of these skills. You'll learn the intricacies of your exciting new profession and realize the potentials that you, as a legal nurse consultant, now have.

Friday - Lesson 12
In our last lesson, we'll look at two final skill sets that you must have to build a successful legal nurse consultant practice: Medical literature review for attorneys and networking. You’ll see how to perform medical research both in libraries and online. The Internet resources available to legal nurse consultants are amazing in their diversity. When you complete this lesson, you’ll be able to conduct medical literature research right from your computer at home. You’ll see how to bill attorneys for this service and then how to use it to generate more business. This lesson also shows you how to network in the legal community and gives you proven techniques for building a lucrative legal nurse consulting practice.

Student Reviews:

  • "Although the course was on-line and I never met the instructor, I got a strong sense of his personality, as if I had attended a lecture course. I learned quite a bit in the course, and it has given me a real sense of where to go next with this profession. I especially appreciated the information on the "human" aspects of the work. The course was not just a list of terms and facts to memorize. I could visualize myself doing the work as it was described. Thank you."
  • "Excellent course and instructor!"
  • "Excellent course, would highly recommend it."
  • "Excellent course, would highly recommend it. I feel this is an excellent course for those who wish to go into the legal nurse consulting field. I think the instructor was informative and attentive."
  • "Good course, worth the money. It saved me a lot of money, seminars [offered by other providers] are outrageously expensive and I bet they don't give much of the real legal help Neal does."
  • "Great course! I am anxious to get started in my LNC business."
  • "Having gone thru the CLNC seminar I felt that this class was a great help. I would advise others to take these type of classes rather than the very costly seminars provided by nurses. I feel like I am much more prepared now that I know what to expect from an attorney & the terminology learned."
  • "I am so excited by what I've learned! I've already used some of the lessons in my everyday work to determine what course of action I should take when resolving issues. I'm looking forward to more courses in the future."
  • "I enjoyed this class so much that I am actually thinking about going to law school!! This class was great! I took to see if I was interested in LNC and I thought I would have to enroll in a more expensive version later, but I found out this is the same information as the expensive versions! The course information is outstanding and so is the instructor. I have already recommended this course to all of my nurse friends. Thank you!"
  • "I enjoyed this course very much and the instructor did an excellent job. Nancy I truly enjoyed this course. This was my frist online course, but will not be my last. Thanks for offering online classes."
  • "I feel this is an excellent course for those who wish to go into the legal nurse consulting field. I think the instructor was informative and attentive."
  • "I found this course to be one of the best I have ever taken. It was so easy to follow and I found myself looking for the next lesson. I actually hated waiting from Friday until the following Wednesday. I would not only recommend this course to others, but I also will be on the look out for other courses prepared and presented by Neal Bevans."
  • "I had just purchased an expensive home study course, when a friend told me about this one. I compared the curriculum and they were nearly the same. I opted for this online course and feel it met my needs 100%. I looked forward to the lessons and learned a lot. Neal's writing style was engaging; sometimes humorous and understandable. I will continue to pursue a career as a Legal Nurse Consultant. Thanks Neal!"
  • "I have enjoyed taking this course and feel that I have gained a great amount of knowledge. I hope to take other courses in the field of law."
  • "I have looked at the content of other Legal Nurse Consulting courses, and always was left with my main question still unanswered..."Yes, but how do I do it!" This course answers that, clearly, logically, and in a step-by-step fashion. The instructor, who has tried over 200 cases, is a professor, and has written 8 books; gives you insights into how lawyers think, how they want to see things presented, and how to talk to them. Just as a Legal Nurse Consultant gets a lawyer up to speed about medical issues, Professor Bevans gets Legal Nurse Consultants up to speed about what they need to know to perform in and for the legal profession. Professor Bevans writes in a clear, punchy, entertaining way that keeps your interest. Professor Bevans is actually the one answering your questions in the discussion areas, which is very motivating. I have taken many "education" courses and am pleased if 1/4 of the material is useful, rarely is 1/2 useful, but in this course ALL of it was useful and I would highly recommend this course."
  • "I learned so much by taking this course. I now have a feel of what a LNC does and what steps I can take in order to start a new career. Thanks!!!"
  • "I'm so glad I took this course. I wanted to take the other crash course offered on a weekend, but it was just too much money and I don't think I could have grasped all the information in a short time. Mr. Bevans is a great instructor. He answers our questions on time. I'm interested now in Forensic Nursing but it seems that it's not offered yet in your curriculum. In the meantime, I'll prepare on my new business venture of being a Legal Nurse Consultant. Thanks a lot, Neal!"
  • "I really liked how positive Neal always was with his comments. Very encouraging to others. Thanks,"

Thanks for an excellent job."
