Syllabus:

All courses run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when the lesson is released, but you must complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

A new section of each course starts on the second or third Wednesday of each month. If enrolling in a series of two or more courses, please be sure to space the start date for each course at least two months apart.

Week One
Wednesday - Lesson 01
What is shyness? In our first lesson, you'll gain a new perspective on shyness and learn what causes the anxiety and physical symptoms behind shyness. With this perspective, you'll be empowered to achieve the level of sociability you desire. You'll gain new appreciation for your personality and be on your way to more confidence in interacting with others.

Friday - Lesson 02
In this lesson, we'll explore the habits and thought patterns behind shyness. Much like a computer program, these thought patterns activate whenever you're faced with a social situation and stop you from being able to communicate effectively with others. By identifying this pattern, you can stop it in its tracks and achieve the deep, meaningful relationships you deserve.

Week Two
Wednesday - Lesson 03
Are you energetic and enthusiastic about life? Others are naturally drawn to people who are positive and take care of themselves. This lesson teaches you how to take advantage of this fact. You'll learn ways to increase your energy through diet, exercise, and recreation.

Friday - Lesson 04
In this lesson, you will learn why confidence is a gift and how you can give that gift to others. We'll explore the thoughts and actions that increase confidence, as well as the unintended actions you might be taking that decrease your confidence.

Week Three
Wednesday - Lesson 05
Did you know that over 70% of what you communicate is nonverbal? Since you speak volumes with your eyes, gestures, and expressions, you'll want to ensure that what you say with your body language is exactly what you intend. In this lesson, you will learn how to establish rapport with others...without saying a word. You will explore how body language can attract others to you. You’ll learn about the art of the smile, your stance, and how to send messages of approachability when you want to establish positive relationships with others.

Friday - Lesson 06
This lesson teaches techniques to reduce anxiety when interacting with others. You will learn effective meditation, visualization, and affirmation techniques to retain your confidence and composure in stressful situations.

Week Four
Wednesday - Lesson 07
The subtleties of small talk are covered in this lesson. You will learn methods of making initial verbal contact, including how to give complements, and other effective conversation starters. In addition, you will learn how to start and maintain telephone conversations. This lesson includes sample scripts you can adapt for your own purposes.

Friday - Lesson 08
This lesson moves past the acquaintance stage into the realm of friendship and is a critical skill in overcoming shyness. To have a friend, you must be a friend. You’ll get effective techniques for starting and maintaining solid friendships.

Week Five
Wednesday - Lesson 09
This lesson covers how to start and sustain a romantic relationship, from first glance to first date. You will learn how to flirt, ask for a date, and practice the habits of being a good partner once the relationship is established.

Friday - Lesson 10
How to protect your personal rights is the focus of this lesson. Many shy people are passive and afraid of standing up for themselves. But you will learn how to be assertive and how to resolve conflicts while respecting the rights of the other person. This is an important skill in overcoming shyness and maintaining positive relationships.

Week Six
Wednesday - Lesson 11
This lesson covers how to prepare for a presentation, which consistently tops the most feared lists. It shows you how to write, practice, and give your speech with confidence.

Friday - Lesson 12
You’ll get the ultimate motivation to assist you in overcoming shyness. You’ll see "before and after" profiles of people who have succeeded using the techniques introduced in 'Goodbye to Shy'. It will also show you how to create your own personal action plan to achieve your social goals. You will also learn about other organizations that are available to provide continuing support.

  • "Kim was a fantastic instuctor, informative and sensitive. The lessons easy enough to understand without being tedious. Having always been shy, I believed that was a part of me that couldn't be changed. I thought the title of the course "Goodbye to Shy" was "cute" and that I would acquire a few tips. I never expected to be able to say Goodbye to parts of my shyness, but I have. It's a wonderful feeling and I will continue to make progress every day. Thank you Kim."

  • "This course is a great resource for anyone who is shy to learn more about their own behaviors: why they experience feelings of anxiety in social situations and what they can do to control these feelings. The course presents practical and useful techniques that can be performed before, during, and after social situations to help alleviate stress and develop personal growth. The instructor, Kimberly Floyd, is not only educated about the subject of shyness, but she has also been there, experiencing many of the same emotions that I (and many others, I'm sure) have experienced throughout life. She exhibits a caring and personal level of leadership that puts one at ease and provides a comfortable environment for learning and expressing one's feelings."
  • "This was a great course, for I learned that there is more to being shy than just being labeled that way. Kim was very knowledgeable, honest, and has a heart of gold."
  • "This was an excellent course. I have never found a course that dealt with shyness. I believe that by continuing to practice the strategies in this course my shyness can become more controlled and much more diminished. I had been able to diminish my shyness in the past, but I have found that because of my recent experience with grief my strong shyness has returned. This course helped me reexamine my shyness and is helping me work towards managing it more effectively again."
  • "This was wonderful. I liked it so much that I will keep my eye open for similar courses like it. I am starting to see a small change in me I am noticing the small victories I am getting."
