History of Pass Christian University

Distance education began in the mid-1800s with the rise of correspondence schools, which catered to students who were unable to attend traditional institutions of learning due because of physical, societal, or geographic limitations.

Isaac Pittman was an early proponent of distance education in England. He began teaching shorthand by correspondence in 1840. Students practiced their skills on short passages from the Bible, and returned them via the postal system to Pittman for grading.

In America, Illinois Wesleyan University began offering bachelor and graduate degrees via correspondence in 1874, and academic and vocational correspondence courses grew in popularity by 1900. The National Home Study Council was founded in 1926 to address issues of ethics and equality in correspondence courses.

The advent of educational radio and television broadened the horizons of communication for use in distance education, broadcasting educational programs to a vast audience of learners. In the 1980s and 1990s, computer networks and telecommunications further expanded communication options for students and teachers in remote locations.

Today, ABC University has joined the growing number of institutions offering complete college degree programs via the Internet. Since our inception in 1997, we have grown our curriculum to include offerings in a wide variety of study fields, from Business and Social Sciences to Divinity and Fine Arts. Our students are located all over the world, and their educational goals are as diverse as their locations. In all cases, ABC University has kept pace with the demands of our students and their employers.

As we look to the future, ABC University is committed to making our Associates, Bachelors, and Masters degree programs accessible to our students and relevant to their rapidly changing needs. We stay on top of technological developments to bring you the very finest curriculum available from any distance learning institution.
