Why did Trinity College change it's name to Pass Christian
University?
Since Trinity College has always strived to provide a unique
educational experience, the confusion over the six+ other
institutions with the Trinity name has detracted from the
distinctiveness of this institution. The name change was made to
preserve the individualism of the university.
What is the
significance of the name Pass Christian?
Trinity College always had strong ties to the gulf coast
Mississippi and Louisiana. When Hurricane Katrina struck, most
of Trinity's infrastructure was destroyed. While New Orleans
suffered catastrophic devastation, many other Gulf coast cities
and towns suffered as well. While aid poured into the city of
New Orleans, many smaller towns were forgotten.
The storm surge from Hurricane Katrina that hit Pass Christian
was estimated at 30 feet, leveling Pass Christian up to half a
mile inland from the shore. Widespread destruction was caused to
West Beach Blvd/90 and the Bay St. Louis Bridge, resulting in
its closure. Sewage contamination has rendered the local water
supply unusable, as some samples tested positive for more than
250 bacteria and parasites.
Pass Christian was virtually wiped away by Katrina. But the
dedicated men and women of the region strived to rebuild and
piece together that city with virtually no outside assistance.
Although Pass Christian University is not related to the town of
Pass Christian Mississippi, we have set out to honor those brave
men and women that have dedicated their lives to rebuilding this
beautiful town.
Do I have to
get my diploma and transcript reprinted so that it reflects the
new Pass Christian name?
Absolutely not. You do not have to do anything. Pass Christian
University will continue to provide you with the same
exemplarily service you have come to expect from us. We will
continue to verify your credentials to any prospective employer
and you will still be entitled to all the Alumni benefits you
were in the past.
